Dear BC Libraries!

Get ready for SRC 2010:

SRC 2010 Librarian's website: kidssrc.bclibrary.ca (available now)
SRC 2010 Kids website: www.kidssrc.ca (available June 10)

Special note! For 2010 SRC we'll be basing our print run on actual orders so please be ready to fill out the order sheet as soon as you see it in early February. There will be a two week ordering period - so alert your staff to watch for it if you're on vacation or away at the Olympics!

"Reading Rocks!" How much fun can reading be? This summer kids in British Columbia will find out when they pick up their "SRC 2010: Reading Rocks!" reading record, stickers and bookmarks illustrated by Chris Tougas.

The seven themes for SRC 2010 will encourage kids to read about music, rhymes, humour, transportation, riddles, adventure and even dinosaurs! The themes are : Readers Roar, Rock n Roll Reading, Riddled Readers, A Rocky Read, Read a Ruckus!, Rise Up Readers!, and Risky Reads.

Libraries can use the general themes or the many suggested sub-themes to create programs, displays or contests. See the list of themes and suggested sub-themes on the SRC 2010 Librarian's website at kidssrc.bclibrary.ca.

Chris Tougas, author and illustrator of Art's Supplies and Mechanimals has created the hilarious poster and reading record for Summer Reading Club 2010: Reading Rocks! Preliminary artwork will be up soon on the SRC 2010 Librarian's website.

The SRC 2010 manual with programs, activity sheets and booklists based on the seven themes will shortly be available on the SRC 2010 Librarian's website at kidssrc.bclibrary.ca. We hope libraries can use the manual to enhance or help staff with ideas to create Summer Reading Club fun at their libraries. Please check the librarian's SRC website now as it is beginning to fill up with information such as the weekly themes, artist biography and preliminary artwork. Your questions or comments about SRC 2010 are welcome - see the link to Els Kushner, KidsSRC Coordinator at the bottom of the SRC 2010 Librarian's webpage.

The SRC 2010 Kids website will have booklists, a web game, activities and other kinds of information and will be available in June 2010 at www.kidssrc.ca.

SRC is sponsored by the British Columbia Library Association and local public libraries with funding assistance from the Public Library Services Branch, Ministry of Education, Margaret MacDiarmid, Minister.
